Special Projects in Topeka

Basements, commercial remodels, ramps and stairs, decor beams, boot benches and stone mailboxes, built by the same crews that build our kitchens.

Chapter 01

Work that does not fit a menu

Ask most remodelers for a ramp, a boot bench, a run of stained beams and a finished basement, and you will be handed four phone numbers. At PDQ it is one conversation. Our special projects cover exterior work such as ramps, stairs and screened porches, commercial remodels, carpentry, and basement finishes, full or partial. If it is built from wood, stone or drywall and it is in Topeka, ask us.

The reason that works is the shop. We keep in-house carpentry and framing crews, a masonry crew led by Taylor Pressgrove, and Scott Willis running the shop, so a small oddball job does not wait on someone else's calendar. Small jobs are where things tend to go wrong: nobody owns them, nobody draws them, and the result looks added on rather than built in.

Drawn the way any other job is drawn

A ramp has a run and a rise that cannot be argued with. A basement has ducts, a panel and a low beam that decide where a ceiling can drop. A commercial remodel has people who still have to get through the door every day. We treat all of them the way we treat a kitchen: meet on site, measure, and put it on paper before anything is cut. The first consultation and estimate are free.

Payton Summers draws in SoftPlan, the same software behind our kitchen and bathroom renderings, so a finished basement gets a floor plan and a 3D view like any other room. Some people want a bar and a bedroom and nothing more, and a partial finish is a perfectly good drawing. Full or partial, it gets the same treatment: the plan first, then the selections, then the crews.

Chapter 03

Made in the shop, set on site

Decor beams are stained in the shop by Scott, so the finish is controlled at a bench rather than improvised on a ladder. Boot benches, lighting and built-in carpentry come out of the same hands. It is the kind of work that shows up in a house as a feeling, warm and finished, rather than as a line item.

A stone mailbox pillar is a small cousin of our masonry work, and it goes to the same crew: Taylor Pressgrove leads three masons who also build fireplaces, firepits and stone siding. When any special project wraps there is a final walk-through, backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Call (785) 235-1511 and tell the office what you are picturing.

Exterior work, commercial remodels, carpentry and basement finishes, full or partial, are all built by PDQ's own crews.

Three details from the job file

A commercial exterior, a stone pillar and a hearth have little in common except the hands that built them. Each one started as a line on a plan.
